The Opportunity
A well-established, diversified business group is seeking a Chief Legal Officer to serve as senior legal executive and trusted strategic adviser to its executive leadership. This is a senior leadership role spanning corporate governance, transactions, commercial contracts, regulatory matters, and enterprise risk across a diversified portfolio of businesses. The ideal candidate is not simply a legal reviewer, but a strategic partner who can balance legal protection with practical business decision-making.
What You'll Do
- Serve as principal legal adviser to senior leadership on major strategic and commercial decisions
- Advise on corporate governance, Board matters, and governance frameworks across the group
- Lead legal aspects of M&A, investments, joint ventures, and corporate transactions
- Establish group-wide commercial contracting standards and lead negotiations on high-value agreements
- Oversee regulatory and compliance matters across diversified business lines
- Manage litigation, disputes, and legal risk at the group level
- Build and lead a high-performing legal function, managing external counsel where needed
What We're Looking For
- Qualified lawyer with strong academic and professional credentials
- Significant senior leadership experience in a legal function, ideally within a leading corporation, financial institution, or reputable law firm
- Strong experience in corporate/commercial law, transactions, investments, and governance
- Experience supporting diversified businesses or complex shareholder structures highly desirable
- Strong integrity, independence, and pragmatic business judgment
